Mainly consisting in sand and clay, the soil of Sologne was never said to be good. It is a whimsical ground, wet in winter, dry in summer. Fine sands stretch siding hard clay throughout the district.
According to local outcrops, these rocks gave birth to specific landscapes mainly composed of woods, moors and pools. The lack of hills gives way to overstretching waters still difficult to master.

All local pools are human made, many of them in the Middle Ages to gather waters drained by trenches.
All the little rivers:
- le Cosson,
- l’Ardoux,
- le Bourillon,
- la Canne
away these surface waters to the Loire.

The re-timbering politics, the surrender of agricultural activities for the benefit of hunting as well as the growing importance of a leisure society ended to shape the present aspects of our district, a sample of Sologne in its whole : moors, woods, brushes, pools, châteaux, and scattered dwellings.
